This alert is disabled by default. To enable it, open the cluster in the RisingWave Cloud console, select Alert Rules in the cluster navigation, and enable Cross-database subscription changelog expiry headroom low.
Common triggers
- A downstream streaming job is stalled by an error or sustained backpressure.
- Streaming resources are insufficient for the downstream job to keep up with upstream changes.
- The retention periods configured for subscriptions on the upstream relation are too short for the current interruption or processing lag.
Diagnosis
-
Note the upstream relation ID (
table_id) in the alert. Connect to the upstream RisingWave database that contains the affected relation and its subscriptions, and identify the relation: - Check cross-database materialized views or sinks that read from this relation for errors, sustained backpressure, or stale output.
- Check Streaming Node CPU and memory utilization in the affected cluster.
-
In the upstream RisingWave database, identify all subscriptions defined on the affected relation and review their retention periods:
Use the relation name and each subscription definition to identify the relevant subscriptions. The longest retention period configured among subscriptions on the relation determines the available changelog window.
Resolution
If the required changelog data has not expired:- Resolve errors or backpressure that prevent the downstream materialized view or sink from making progress.
- If Streaming Nodes are fully utilized, scale the cluster. For more information, see Scale a cluster manually.
-
If the available changelog window is too short, increase the retention of any subscription on the affected relation to a duration that exceeds the current consumer lag by at least three hours. Run the statement in the upstream RisingWave database. When multiple subscriptions are defined on the relation, the longest configured duration determines the available window:
